This lily pad design rug is hooked with various recycled materials on burlap backing. The edges show the binding which is folded over and stitched down on the back. It certainly has served its purpose over the years. It is in very fragile condition. Imagine if this rug could talk the stories it would tell. Usually as rugs would wear they would be moved from the parlour or bedroom to the kitchen and then to the back door. Today, rugs hooked many years ago can be found in barns and sheds as well.  They were hooked out of necessity from recycled clothing to last for many years.
The rug hooker, Ivy Willa (Brown) Moore lived in Springhill. She was married and enjoyed many hand crafts including sewing, quilting and rug hooking. She generally hooked rugs/mats for family use.
