Story about the rug

This lovely floor runner shows 5 blocks, each containing 3 flowers, leaves and stem in each block. It is hooked with a variety of materials including wool yarn, knitted fabric and other recycled materials. The edges of the runner have been repaired with cotton binding sewn on the front and turned over to the back and stitched to the burlap backing. It is truly a family treasure.
It is believed Margaret hooked this floor runner for the long hall in the church manse where she and husband, Robert, lived which was located next to the Bethyl Presbyterian Church in Caladonia, St. Mary’s District, Guysborough County, Nova Scotia where they  lived for many years.
Margaret was a community nurse and midwife in the 1920’s and 1930’s when home births and medical care relied on community nurses. She helped deliver many babies across Guysborough and Pictou Counties.
