“Nouveau Rose” is the title of this oval, stained glass design with beautiful flowers hooked around the outside and a plain centre. It is hooked on burlap backing with new and recycled strips of wool. The edge is whip stitched with binding sewn on the backside below the whipped edge.  The rug hooker’s initials and the year it was made can be seen along the flowers around the edge. It has faded somewhat which tells us it was exposed to the sun over time however, is in good condition.
Kay, as friends and family called her,  learned to rug hook from various rug school teachers in Ontario and Nova Scotia guilds and had been hooking for over 52 years. She usually hooked rugs for family use, social times and charitable causes. She was a Life Member of The Rug Hooking Guild of Nova Scotia and an honorary member of the Colchester Heritage Hookers.
Not only did she hook rugs but she was involved in her community in Old Barns and Truro areas as a member of the Old Barns UCW, Colchester Historical Society, hospital auxiliary and she also curled and played golf.
She has had left a positive impact on many who knew her.
