The title of this beautiful oriental rug is “Vasa”. The centre motif is surrounded by floral vines and scrolls with a narrow vine border. Outside the border are vines, scrolls and floral designs and a double border around the outside edge. There is a fringe on each end of this rug.
It is hooked on burlap backing with new and recycled wool cut in narrow strips. The edges are whip stitched and binding sewn on the back. Note the date this rug was hooked as well as the rug hooker’s initials are hooked along the long edges of this rug in the right and left corners.
Kay, as she was called, was a Life Member of the Rug Hooking Guild of Nova Scotia and an honorary member of the Colchester Heritage Rug Hookers. She hooked rugs for over 52 years learning from various rug school teachers who taught with both the Ontario and Nova Scotia guilds.
