This beautiful floral rug is in mint condition. (Other rugs hooked by this rug hooker may also be viewed on this site. They are registered numbers 2026-15 and 2026-16). Notice the two bouquets of flowers, one bouquet is facing in one direction and the other bouquet is facing the opposite direction.
Hazel was an excellent rug hooker. She spun and dyed the wool from the sheep she and her husband raised.
Of German descent, Hazel lived her whole life in Lunenburg County, NS in the communities of Northwest, Oakland and Mahone Bay. She was a homemaker and would hook 5 rugs a year. She would exchange them for oilcloth from a peddler who would visit the area and would take the hooked rugs back to the United States to sell.
This rug is hooked with spun wool from their sheep on burlap backing and the edges are crochet. It and her other rugs were used on the floors of their home for warmth and have stood the test of time. They are beautiful, with minimal fading and in great condition.
They are true family heirlooms cherished by Hazel’s granddaughter, Carol.
