This hooked rug includes 8 “hit and miss” hooked squares at the top and at the bottom, 4 “hit and miss” hooked squares at each of the two sides, a rose with leaves in each of the 4 corners and in the center are two birds sitting on a branch with a heart in between them. It is very colourful and colours compliment each other.
It is hooked with recycled materials, some wool strips on burlap backing. The edges are whip stitched as were most of the rugs Beulah hooked. Binding is sewn along the outside edges on the backside of the rug. Beulah’s initials and year she hooked this rug are stitched on the binding along the top edge of the rug on the backside.
Beulah Dorey, a self-taught rug hooker also enjoyed knitting, sewing, quilting and backing. She lived for many years in Weston, NS. Beulah Dorey: 1939-2023.
