This design is called “Grandma’s Rug”. It was a pattern published in Rug Hooking Magazine Volume VI, #5, 1995. Mauve and yellow flowers are hooked in the upper and lower center edge and the diamonds in the rug are hooked with various colours and textures of new and recycled materials on burlap backing. The edges of this lovely oval rug are whip stitched with binding sewn along the outside edge on the back of the rug.
Beulah Dorey enjoyed making a variety of handcrafts including rug hooking, quilting, sewing and knitting. She also enjoyed baking. She is a self taught rug hooker and also attended workshops in her local community of Weston, NS and surrounding area. Beulah Dorey: 1939-2023
