This Garrett pattern #130 was hooked in 1914. The year it was rug hooked and the rug hooker’s initials are hooked into the rug in the center area. The colours remain very vibrant in this rug hooked with various recycled materials including cotton, knits and mixed materials, on burlap backing. The edges are bound with cotton binding sewn on the front, folded over and stitched down on the back showing a ridge around the outside edges of both the front and back.  This rug is a treasured keepsake.

The rug hooker was a resident of Mount Thom, Pictou County, NS. Her family immigrated to Nova Scotia from Scotland. Mary lived in Mount Thom all her life. She was a homemaker and caregiver for the family. This rug has been passed down through the generations and is now with a relative who lives Westville, Pictou County, NS.  It is in excellent condition.
