Story about the rug

The design of this rug is referred to as an “Inch Mat” or Boston Sidewalk. Helen Grant designed this hooked rug with assistance from Doreen Wright during a class at one of the Rug Hooking Guild of Nova Scotia’s rug schools in 1995. The colours in this rug compliment each other very well. Doreen taught Helen as well as many others how to rug hook over the years.
It is hooked on burlap backing with narrow strips of new and recycled wool strips (#3 cut). The edges are whip stitched with wool yarn and binding is sewn on the back around the outside edge meeting the whipped edge. It had been displayed at an exhibition in Bible Hill, NS years ago.
Helen taught school, enjoyed walking, curling, golfing, games and of course rug hooking.
