Story about the rug

The lovely floral design is hooked with yarn on burlap backing. The backing is folded over to the back and stitched down. Looking closely at the rug, you can see where the rug hooker ran out of yarn and the additional yarn is slightly a different colour which cannot be noticed from a distance. In some areas, the edges have been repaired. The colours remain vivid given the age of this hooked rug.
Mina learned the craft of rug hooking from her mother as a young child. She didn’t hook for many years having raised 16 children and involved in the community until her 60’s while living in St. Ninian, Cape Breton. She hooked a few rugs. This is a family keepsake to treasure. (Mina MacIsaac: 1913-1985)
