This rug was hooked with wool yarn in colours of brown for the background, light green for the shamrocks, some leaves of the roses and rose buds while a medium green was used for leaves of roses as well as the thistles. The roses are hooked in shades of medium pink and burgundy outlined in black.
It is in very good condition, minimal fading which indicates it was kept out of the direct sunlight over the years.
The thistles in this design are symbols of Nova Scotia’s Scottish heritage. Nova Scotia is known as “New Scotland” and adopted the thistle as part of its Coat of Arms.
The clovers too, are symbols of Scottish heritage and symbolize protection and good luck.
This hooked rug was purchased in the 1980’s in Nova Scotia.
