This oriental design is titled: “Tree of Life” and has a geometric border surrounding it. It is hooked using wool cut in #2 (very narrow) strips on burlap backing. The edges are whipped and cotton binding is sewn along the edges of the rug on the back. It is in good condition with minimal fading. You will note that there is a fringe on one end of the rug.
The rug hooker, Alice “Jean” Watson was a nurse who enjoyed gardening, cooking, church, music and rug hooking. She was a member of the Dartmouth Heritage Matters for over 35 years. She learned how to hook from members of the hooking group and also attended rug hooking workshops and the “rug school” in Nova Scotia. She hooked for family use, social times and creative expression.
