This design is titled: ” Cape May Primitive” by Ruth Hall purchased from Cushing & Company. It is hooked on burlap backing using new and recycled wool strips. The edges are whip stitched and cotton binding is sewn along the outside edges on the back of the rug.
It is in excellent condition and the colours chosen for this rug compliment each other very well. It was exhibited at the Mary Black Gallery, Halifax, NS.
The rug hooker, Marg Geldart, born in 1929, has been a member of the Colchester Heritage Rug Hookers group in Truro, NS for approximately 40 years. She learned how to hook rugs from her mother and grandmother. Her job while watching them hook rugs was to cut the wool strips for rug hooking. In the 1980’s she decided to take a rug hooking course from Doreen Wright in Truro and hasn’t stopped rug hooking.
