Story about the rug

This rug was one of many hooked by Mary Royles of Trenton NS. It was given to a grandson in 1951 and it continued to be in use for many years. It was one of the most popular patterns sold by Garrett’s in New Glasgow.
As was typical, it is made of strips of woolen clothing, some of which were overdyed by the maker. It was completed on burlap from Scotland, with black cotton binding sewn over the edges. It was repaired in the mid 70’s by Stephanie Jansen of Halifax. At this point it shows signs of wear on the binding but otherwise is intact, but is no longer used on the floor.
