The Parrsboro Citizens Band was one of the Maritime Provinces’ earliest established community marching and concert bands, first formed sometime prior to 1870. From 1962 to 2020, the band performed in the Hill Memorial Bandstand in Parrsboro (since replaced with a newer structure). When I was a 19-year-old member of the band, I designed and hooked this rug, featuring the band’s name and colours, and my interpretation of the bandstand’s unique architecture. The rug was proudly hung on display in the band’s rehearsal hall. When the hall underwent major renovations in the early 2000s, the rug was misplaced and thought lost. It was fortunately found in 2023 and returned to me.
