“Lattice and Flowers”is hooked using #4 and #5 cut strips of recycled materials on linen backing. The edges are turned over and there is binding machine stitched around the edge which is a technique Doris created herself calling it the “Eaton Edge” which many rug hookers use today to finish their hooked treasures. Doris’s rugs are hooked mostly on linen backing as she felt that linen backing wears longer than anything else. She used recycled materials almost exclusively in her work as her grandmother would have done.
Doris hooked her name and year the hooked piece was created in every one of her hooked items and encouraged others to do so as well. Each hooked piece like each painting one creates is a work of art. Doris Eaton: 1928-2019.
