This rug was commissioned by the curator of the Parkdale/Maplewood Museum. Each of the 4 images represents the curator’s property including their home, barn, outbuilding and oxen. Each corner of the rug you will see a maple leaf. The Museum is located in Maplewood, Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia.
The rug is hooked using acrylic yarns on burlap backing. The edges are crochet into the backing with a verigated acrylic yarn. Note Ormand’s initials are hooked in the lower right hand corner.
This rug and others hooked by Ormand and other rug hookers are proudly displayed at the Parkdale Maplewood Museum, a place that has much local history.
Ormand was a veteran of the Second World War. During his work life he was a woodsman, farmer, cook and served with the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires. Upon retirement he took up rug hooking as a hobby while caring for his ill wife. He won numerous awards for his mats at various exhibitions. He sold many of his rugs at a shop in Mahone Bay.
