Elizabeth created this hooked treasure as a wedding gift for her son and his bride in 1912. It is hooked using the “hook and roll method”. This method refers to hooking loops on burlalp backing that has no pattern or design. Elizabeth woud have hooked an area and then rolled up the area that was hooked and commence hooking in the blank burlap areas until it was finished.
It is hooked using various yarns on burlap backing. To preserve it, cotton binding has been attached around the outside edge of the hooked rug.
You can view this lovely created piece at the Parkdale/Maplewood Community Museum, Maplewood, Lunenburg County, NS as it is on display with other lovely hooked rugs made by folks in the area.
