The design of this hooked rug is often referred to as an “Inch Mat” or “Boston Sidewalk”. This design was found on the floors of many homes in Nova Scotia over the years. It is hooked with wool strips and wool yarn on linen backing. The edges are whip stitched with a cotton binding sewn along the outside edge on the back. Notice the beautiful colours and colour values in this rug and every inch is outlined in black. The colours compliment each other very well. The rug itself is in mint condition.
The rug hooker, Marie (Pothier) Sweet learned to rug hook when she joined the “Friends Hook Nook” group in Springhill, NS at the age of 62.
A real family treasure. Marie (Pothier) Sweet: 1931-2009.
