This design is a very popular Garrett Bluenose pattern. This rug is hooked with wool strips on linen backing. The edges are whip stitched. Cotton binding is sewn along the outside edges on the back of the rug. It is in like-new condition and is well done!
The rug hooker, Marie (Pothier) Sweet was of Acadian descent born in Wedgeport, NS. She lived in various areas within Nova Scotia. She learned to rug hook at the age of 62 while living in Springhill, NS and rug hooking with the “Friends Hook Nook” group.
