This is the last rug Hattie hooked. It was created for an anticipated granddaughter. She also made a matching quilt. Hattie enjoyed hooking rugs as heirlooms for anticipated grandchildren. She began rug hooking at an early age learning from other family members. She hooked until reaching the age of 65.
This rug is hooked with yarn and wool strips on burlap backing. The backing is folded over to the back and stitched down.
It continues to be cherished by her granddaughter who was gifted this rug at birth. (Hattie (Latham) MacDonald: 1894-1991)
