Hattie hooked rugs for many, many years. She learned to hook from other family members. She hooked until age 65. This rug was Hattie’s 2nd last rug she hooked. She hooked rugs for anticipated grandchildren. Each rug was as special as each grandchild. She saw these rugs as “show” rugs not to be walked on.
This rug was gifted to the owner (who is one of Hattie’s granddaughters) in the early 1960’s at birth and holds a special place in the owner’s heart.
It is hooked with yarn and wool strips. The backing is burlap. The edges are folded over to the back of the rug and stitched down. Cotton binding is sewn along the outside edge along the back of the rug.
