This unique wall hanging illustrates many aspects of living years ago including pumping water from the well, carrying water, making butter, sawing wood, haying, and spinning wool. These were common tools used back years ago. Henriette Aucoin was born and raised in the Cheticamp area and was one of the many in Cheticamp that rug hooked. Cheticamp rug hooking is unique to that area. Henriette hooked many, many pieces using 2-ply wool on burlap backing. She also made the fringe you see at the bottom of the wall hanging. The edges are folded over and stitched down.
Henriette, along with her husband, raised six children and also found time to rug hook as well as socialize with the community. The teapot was always on for visitors when they stopped by.
