This wall hanging was designed and hooked by a well known Cheticamp rug hooker, Annie Blanche Aucoin for her granddaughter, Angele, on her 3rd birthday. There is a photograph of Angele inserted in the opening at the centre of the wall hanging. The year it was completed is hooked directly below the photograph. (The words are hooked in French. A large majority of Cheticamp’s residents are Acadians and speak French natively. Together with its smaller neighbour, Saint-Joseph-du-Moine, Cheticamp makes up the largest Francophone enclave on Cape Breton Island.)

This special birthday gift is hooked using new wool yarn on burlap backing. The backing is folded over and stitched down on the back. A fringe at the bottom of this wall hanging compliments it very well.
