“Nanny’s Hallowe’en” is the title of this hooked rug. Susan (the ghost) and her sister (the witch) are trick-or-treating from Nanny & Grampy Penney’s house in Lockeport, NS.
This rug was exhibited at the River House, Petite Riviere, NS in 2013 as part of a rug hooking exhibition.
It is hooked using recycled in wool, some hand dyed on burlap backing. The edges are finished with binding showing on the front and folded over and stitched down on the back. You can see Susan’s initials in the top right corner and the year it was made: “SDG 91”. As Susan says, “colour is one of the crucial elements in rug hooking”. This hooked rug certainly confirms this is true.
