It is unknown who the designer or rug hooker was who created this hooked rug although this particular design was popular in many homes in the south shore area of Nova Scotia. Many types of materials from recycled clothing were used to hook these rugs which have lasted for many, many years.
This particular hooked rug was hooked on burlap backing using various recycled materials including satin lining, knitted fabrics, yarn, wool fabrics and cotton fabrics. The binding is showing on the outside edge of the rug, folded over and stitched down on the back. This rug has been repaired by the owner along the rug’s edges in 2017 to preserve its longevity.
