This is a rural winter scene hooked with acrylic yarn on burlap backing. Ormand or “Ormie” as he was called always included a house and a barn in his hooked rugs. He hooked starting at one end of the blank burlap and created the design as he hooked along until he reached the other end of the rug. The edges are folded over to the back. Ormand learned to rug hook at age 6 from his mother.  He started rug hooking again after his retirement. He served in WWII, 52nd Battery (gunner: 3rd anti-tank regiment, RCA). He drove Charlie’s Taxi in Middleton for a few years as well as other types of work. He sold his rugs at Rags to Rugs in Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia to the many tourists that would visit the shop every year. Ormand Kaulback: 1910: 2007
